“Meanings are not determined by situations, but we determine ourselves by the meanings we give to situations.”
Therapy for individuals, families, and children in south Austin, Buda, Kyle, and San Marcos
Meet Edith Cuevas, MS, LPC
You spend your days trying to keep it altogether amid the demanding chaos, anxiety and doubts of family life. There is no “answer key” to solving the challenges you face as a child, teenager, adult, husband, wife, parent and working professional. The emotional and physical toll feels overwhelming and unbearable at times. Quite frankly, you feel burnout by the inability to find healing, joy, and balance.
As a bilingual licensed professional counselor (LPC), my goal is to aid you and your family in finding healthy approaches to deal with stress, trauma, anxiety, and emotional dysregulation. As a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and professional counselor, I offer an empathetic and nonjudgmental approach to identifying and deconstructing the core issues that have you mentally worn out. Together, we rebuild new approaches to deal with trauma, anxiety, and uncertainty so you can feel healthy, happy, and hopeful.
Whether you prefer sessions in English, en Español, o una combinación de ambos, my goal is to create a safe space for understanding, healing, and connection.
Edith Cuevas in the center.
Aiding You in Therapy
There’s a common misconception that “therapy” implies weakness, a stigma suggesting something is wrong with you. The truth, though, is you are bright, forward-thinking, and resolute in bringing balance, forgiveness, and healing to your life.
As a counselor who has experienced various journeys throughout my life, the common thread of my professional life has been to be of service to people in need. My clients are welcomed to a safe, empathetic, and easygoing environment where they can freely express their thoughts and feel safe sharing them.
I was born in Mexico City and moved to the U.S. when I was 6 years old. I am fluent in English and Spanish, and I have an expansive world view, that is to say; I am open to people from all walks of life. I was raised in Houston, Tx. I have attended Catholic schools all my life. I believe in love, meaning, purpose, and service. Love colors my world. I believe true love transforms and is available to us all, no matter where you come from, where you’ve been, or what you’ve done or not done. Our behaviors do not determine nor define us.
I have experienced deep suffering, and transformative healing. We are all on a road and some of us experience unexpected “twists” and sometimes we get completely run off the track and find ourselves in a dark wood. If you seek a guiding light out of the darkness; if you need your feelings of anger, sadness, frustration, disappointment validated, I can provide that and the tools to come through in the end in a way that aligns with your values and dignity.
En Emmaus Counseling ofrecemos terapia bilingüe en inglés y español para niños, adolescentes y adultos, brindando un espacio seguro y compasivo donde puedes expresarte con libertad y sanar.
My Journey
My journey has been long and varied, shaping the way I connect with and support my clients. Life is hard—and I’ve seen that truth across cultures and circumstances. I’ve worked in developing countries where people speak minority dialects and focus on meeting their most basic needs: food, water, and shelter. I’ve also worked alongside one of the world’s leading cardiothoracic surgeons at Baylor College of Medicine.
My experiences are wide-ranging—I’ve homeschooled, pursued higher education, and walked through my own challenges. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Theology, an MD, and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), trained in complex trauma, play therapy, sand tray therapy (levels 1–4), and Adlerian theory.
All of this informs how I show up for you. You matter. Your story, your pain, and your healing have meaning. You are worthy of empathy, compassion, and encouragement. My goal as a trauma-informed therapist is to walk with you on your journey—offering insight, professional support, and genuine care to help lighten your load.
You are not alone. Healing is possible, and I would be honored to walk beside you as you move toward wholeness and hope.
